How to Choose the Perfect Patio Furniture for Me!
Step #1:How am I going to use the patio furniture?
Do I want it for one or two people or for a family? Do I want friends over for dinner or a party? Exactly how do I plan on using my new furniture.Step# 2: How to decide on the correct material?
The right materials make all the difference in the world, appearance, ease of movement and the placement of furniture and finally the ability to stand up to the elements.
Materials are available in Aluminum, Wrought Iron, Steel, Wicker, Wood & Plastic Resin.
An overview of the advantages and disadvantages of each of these materials.
Aluminum furniture is light-weight, & easy to move. It is very durable, and stands up to the elements well. It is naturally rust resistant, but does form an aluminum oxide which dulls the surface be can be removed with soap and water. Aluminum doesn't conduct heat as other metals when sitting in the full sun. The aluminum finish adheres well to color, which can produce beautiful and unique designed furniture.
Wrought Iron furniture is extremely sturdy and durable and will hold up well under even fairly rough treatment. Of course the cost of this durability is weight: wrought iron will generally be the heaviest of your patio furniture options. Wrought iron furniture is usually treated with powder coating or another kind of coating to prevent rust. Finally, all-weather fabric cushions are recommended for added comfort when sitting in wrought iron furniture.
Steel Patio Furniture bridges the difference between aluminum and wrought iron, offering a strong material that's heavier than aluminum but far lighter than wrought iron. Steel responds to temperature changes - hot or cold to the touch. Stainless steel outdoor furniture is very durable - but it is not impervous to the elements. Modern primes and paint can keep rust to a miniumum. Requires minor maintenance.
Wicker -Patio furniture also know as weather resistant resin wicker, or HDP wicker, are well suited for both indoor and outdoor use. In outdoor furniture, wicker is a popular chocie for a patio, a porch, and sunrooms. Wicker is lightweight, flexibel and far more comfortable than raw metal. All weather resin today is versatile and durable. The material requires low maintneance and is available in distinctive weaves. Naturally looking colors won't peel or flake like traditional painted wicker. This is a great alternative, especially with the selection of fabric cushions available in fade resistant fabric.
Wood patio furniture is sturdy and comfortable, but requires additional care to keep it in good condition. Well cared for wooden patio furniture can last a long time. Teak wood is the most popular outdoor wooden furniture, but can be found in other woods. Durabiltiy - Requires UV and water protective sealants, and may require additional protection against insects depending on region. Some woods, like cedar have natural weather and pest resistant properties, and while they look great, they can be costly. Teak will turn a grey patina if left in weather.
Resin/Plastic patio furniture is lightweight, and has smooth sleek lines. Resin are inexpensive, and long lasting with minimal or no maintenance. For the eco-friendly, there are even plastic patio furniture lines made from recycled materials. As an added bonus, plastic outdoor furniture is often stackable, making it an excellent choice for additional seating that will live in storage most of the time. Easy to maintain, not flemsiby, resistant to breakage - wipes clean damp sponge and soap.
